New Year, New Job!

I am excited to share that I will be starting a new job come end of January! I am thrilled to be part of this new company and industry! It will require me though to put aside my jeans and casual tops and start wearing clothes more appropriate for a corporate setting.

There are endless possibilities in fashion, especially when you have a tiny body, but the fact is, even at my slimmest, I was a UK Size 12, which is a large here in the Philippines. This limits my choices a little bit.

We don’t have a lot of stores in Manila that cater to plus-sized women. There are a few local plus-size clothing brands but I find most of their clothes to be dated and for the most part un-stylish. So my usual go-to store is the UK clothing store Dorothy Perkins. I’ve been shopping at Dorothy Perkins since the store opened here in the Philippines.

Here are some dresses that I like from DP:

And some I just recently bought:

I have to tell you, though, this corporate-dressing thing is quite an adjustment because I am more comfortable wearing more casual clothes to work. But I’m excited for the change. And I’m excited for the new experiences, new people, and new challenges in store for me this year.

Believe me, you are lucky to be shopping in the Philippines. I found it had so much more choices for plus-sized clothes. Here in SG, where women are in XXS and XXXS sizes, the largest size they have is XL, which doesn't fit me still! The XL here is like a M or L in Phil. stores! That's why I always shop for clothes when I go home. Some clothes in tiangges there still fit me and SM has this plus-sized section. Dorothy Perkins kasi is ok with formal or office wear but I find their casual wear too pricey. When they go on sale here, the items on sale are the smaller sizes, 'cos the Caucasians and other big women here all shop in DP on normal days. I'm not exaggerating that there's really no other choice unless you want to wear "auntie" clothes! New Look used to have big sizes when they first opened here in SG so I went shopping-crazy that time. But, after a few months, they may have realized ppl are so "small" here that, now, their biggest size in the stores is only 14. :(

Hi, Tin! You're right, when I was in Singapore last year, I did not enjoy shopping for clothes at all! Thanks for dropping by my blog. :)

Try Forever 21! They have plus sizes and very trendy clothes for "healthy" girls like us. Haha!
